About Michael Sheets

Hello! I am a Scientist at Sunflower Therapeutics democratizing biomanufacturing through yeast strain engineering. Previously in the Dunlop Lab at Boston University, I developed optogenetic protein tools to study and control bacterial antibiotic resistance. I also have experience in diverse microbial metabolisms from research at Olin College, and in protein purification and drug formulation from internships at Tetragenetics and Tarveda Therapeutics. My work throughout my career uses techniques from synthetic biology and microbiology to develop robust protein systems. I am invested in synthetic biology education, particularly in hands-on K-12 and undergraduate mentorship and teaching. My work with BioBuilder Educational Foundation to guide high school students as they design and develop their own synthetic biology projects has been especially rewarding.
