Let’s start with a question I often ask in conversations: “Are you ready?”This is a question we face daily whether we acknowledge it or not. Fortunately, most of us have not faced something so emotionally or physically traumatic that we consciously ask ourselves “Was I Ready?” Unfortunately, because of this, we rarely change our lives to be better equipped to handle these events and generally aren’t ready when these events occur within our lives. You do not have to be a fully-fledged “Prepper” to be prepared, often it just takes a few minor life adjustments to aim towards the right direction and that is where I truly provide direction and support. As a Public Affairs Officer disciplined towards Emergency Management, keeping the interest of the private and public sector homed in on preparedness involves working through a wide spectrum of topics that help the community answer the “Are we ready?” question. A plan focused on individual preparedness while also highlighting the strength in numbers concept is how communities will cope or overcome the potentially catastrophic events that we all could experience. Empowering organizations and people to engage in conversations about building resiliency is where we bring it all together. Being a passionate and seasoned volunteer in three different organizations that support disaster response, search and rescue, aerospace education, and public affairs has supplied a range of experiences and allowed me to find an immense and long-standing passion for this field. Having earned multiple certifications in crisis and disaster management, international humanitarian law, OSHA train the trainer, culminating with a bachelor’s degree with honors from Arizona State University with a discipline in Disaster and Emergency Management, I have found that there is no better experience than helping build strength within organizations and communities. I enjoy sharing my expertise and experiences with the unwavering goal of contributing to the greater good of the communities I serve. Finally, and probably most importantly, a critical experience that has added depth to this focus is training. Being a tenured and well-practiced Learning Specialist at Starbucks Coffee Company has given me the ability to build, manage, and deliver behavior-based and technical-based messaging that supports a natural and inclusive human connection. The combination of all my skills, experiences, and desire to do more demonstrates that my core values of being people-focused, engrained integrity, and results-driven are always within scope.
