Selio Medical are developing a safe, effective device to reduce the occurrence of pneumothorax during Transthoracic Needle Biopsy (TTNB). My role at Selio was varied, and included the following responsibilities: core R&D activities, design assurance, QMS development, cleanroom operations, employee training, in vitro testing, and in vivo testing.

Jerez De La Frontera, Spain

Selected for training at FTE Jerez as part of the Aer Lingus Future Pilot Programme and spent 14 months based at Flight Training Europe in Jerez, Spain. During this time I completed 700 hours of ground school, 85 hours of single and dual-engine flight, 3 hours of upset recovery training, and 120 hours of multi-crew environment training in a Boeing 737-800 simulator. I was also involved with the student committee and served as course leader for my cadet class.

ProVerum Medical developed a minimally-invasive implant for the treatment of symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). ProVerum Medical was a dynamic, fast-paced environment where each team member had a high degree of responsibility. My role involved the development the implant, its associated delivery system, retrieval method, simulated use models, and DV testing as part of a small cross-functional team.

During my time at the Trinity Centre for Bioengineering (TCBE), I worked on two minimally-invasive transcatheter stent projects. The Mivar project involved the design, development and testing of a transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) device. I then transferred to the ProVerum project that involved the design, development and testing of a novel urological implant designed to relieve symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).Primary responsibilities of both projects involved working on the design, development and testing of a stented transcatheter medical device and associated guidance, delivery, fixation and retrieval systems. Other main responsibilities included interacting with surgical teams, using pre-clinical testing facilities (cadaver and animal), and managing component suppliers and external manufacturers.
