President & CeoEmphysema Foundation Of America Dec 2017 - PresentLos Angeles, California, UsEmphysema.orgOur organization was founded in 1979 when we set out to fight for every breath of those suffering with emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related problems. It includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD makes breathing difficult for the 16 million Americans who have been diagnosed this disease. It is estimated another 12-15 million more people suffer from COPD, but have not been diagnosed and are not being treated. Today, EFA is working to increase awareness and promote early diagnosis of emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as the causes, treatment and lack of research funding devoted to these chronic lung ailments. COPD is the third leading cause of death in the world with three million lives lost to COPD in 2016, including 155,041 Americans. In the US, COPD is the fourth leading cause of death, after heart disease, cancer and accidents. Visit us at www.emphysema.org to learn more. -
