Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL - Database Engine TeamPerformed tests and collected metrics defining the lower boundary of memory consumption necessary for a scalable database engine- Worked with other teams of engineers to lower the overall engine binary memory footprint.- Significantly reduced cost for customers with inconsistent workloads by implementing a database state that swapped memory to disk, minimizing memory use when there is no active workload. Worked with Buffer Cache: Database caching which attempts to keep the working set pages in memory, to reduce more time intensive I/O from the disk. As is done with open source community PostgreSQL, the pages have a usage count that is important in the LRU victim selection.- Retrieved metrics on and reset usage counts for the buffer cache, to verify that a customer has hit a specific issue - Mitigated slow queries in large working sets by forcing the usage counts lower for faster eviction- Designed a buffer cache eviction algorithm that mitigates worst case behavior without negatively impacting performanceInvestigated and mitigated time sensitive customer issues during on-call operations shifts- Identified and solved issues using data from core dumps, logging, and metrics from the time of the issue- Communicated with customers to explain the issue, provide any action needed on their part, and ultimately resolve the issue
