The Partnership Development Office (PDO) is VCC's key entrepreneurial focal point for the development and delivery of innovative, customized educational programs. We cultivate and steward a range of partnership initiatives that are informed by academic research and best practices developed from real-world situations. As Manager, I report to the Director of Partnership Development, and provide strategic and operation leadership and support to a dynamic team of program coordinators, advisors and program assistants. My work requires that I cultivate extensive and positive working relationship across many VCC departments, and with multiple external organizations.

I lead the Department of Community Training and Development (CTD), and report to the Dean of Continuing Studies and Contract Training. The CTD actively develops and implements non-base funded educational projects at VCC. These projects provide training opportunities to individuals in the community who need new skills to be re-integrated into the labour market. My responsibilities include supervising project teams, collaborating with project partners (organizations outside of VCC), developing new projects, supporting other VCC departments in pursuing project opportunities, liaising with project funders, and negotiating project contracts.

As Interim Dean, I provide leadership to the School of Continuing Studies and report to the Vice President, Advancement and International Education. Besides supporting a team of dedicated program coordinators and educators, I advocate for the needs of Continuing Studies at the college leadership level and seek adequate resources to ensure its smooth operation. Involvement in the institutional politics has given me a great opportunity to understand the complex organizational and fiscal reality of sustaining an urban college that serves a highly diverse student population.

The BRITISH COLUMBIA CAREER DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (BCCDA) is a non-profit professional association registered under the Society Act in the Province of BC. Incorporated in 2009, the BCCDA was formed through the merger of two successful, well established, BC career sector associations: BC Career Management Association (LMI Career Management Association of BC) and ENET Society (Employment, Network, Education and Training Society). As the services and memberships of these two associations converged, both boards and memberships voted to merge to create one streamline, stronger and more dynamic professional association for career and employment professionals in BC - the BCCDA.BCCDA's mandate is to provide a central networking, education, and training service to develop the knowledge and skills of its members, thus enhancing their effectiveness for serving their clientele. BCCDA has an active board of directors comprising leaders in the career development community who are committed to serving members and career professionals throughout all regions of British Columbia.

Cinevolution organizes the annual Your Kontinent: Richmond International Film & Media Arts Festival (http://ykfestival.ca/) and various workshops, seminars, screenings, and events about films and media arts. We are a non-profit society that is composed of devoted film and media arts professionals and amateurs. We are the Resident Art Group at the Richmond Cultural Centre Media Lab (http://www.richmond.ca/culture/cultural-centre/medialab/about.htm).

I co-host a weekly radio program with another commentator. We engage the listeners and callers in social, economic and political dialogue. The program enhances a sense of community and social responsibility, and promotes respect among citizens with differences in thoughts, values and positions. For 15 years, I go to the radio every Wednesday and apply all of my public knowledge in this enriching process of critical reflections and discussions.

I provided translation service (as freelancer) to a client who needed her Chinese materials to be converted into English on a weekly basis. The work required timely response to the assignments, usually having a turnaround time of a weekend. As the original Chinese materials were related to the social impact of health care and medicine, I had to constantly update my medical lexicon and awareness of relevant public affairs.

RCEN is a civic group in Richmond, BC, Canada that seeks to engage local residents in public and community affairs that matter to them. RCEN is affiliated with the Civic Education Society (CES).

New Asia Film Festival is the first international film event in the City of Richmond, one of the fastest growing and most culturally diverse metropolises in Canada. Centred on contemporary and progressive themes related to Asian cultures, the festival is committed to showcasing cutting-edge films and media art works from around the world.This annual event is co-presented by the City of Richmond and Cinevolution Media Arts Society. Our mission is to introduce and promote new Asian cinema, to stimulate critical thinking and new means of expression, to foster intercultural understanding and communication, and to enhance cultural exchange between Canada, Asia, and the world.

My role is to coordinate special projects for the college, source new opportunities, and represent the college in various community initiatives. A highlight of the various projects I coordinate is World Beat - a demo project funded by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development to support older immigrant youth who are facing challenges in continuing with their education due to a number of barriers. The project uses an innovative approach to engage the participants - combining music, art, body movement, advising, and communication skills development - and help them make education and career choices. Collaborating with a team of instructors and youth outreach workers, I take a leading role in ensuring that the educational and personal development outcomes are achieved as promised to the government funder. As the participating youth face many life challenges, our wrap-around approach in the project has to be client-centred, flexible and trauma-informed.

I manage an employment service centre (Network to Work) that supports unemployed individuals to re-enter the labour market. Many of the clients using the centre have been out of work for a longer period of time (sometimes up to 1-2 years). I supervise a team of employment counsellors and work together to create job search programs and activities for clients to build confidence, acquire new skills, and form a strong sense of community and mutual help. The centre sees positive outcomes of clients finding employment within 3-6 months after using our service.

Worked as consultant for the Canadian Immigration Integration Project (CIIP) to support the China team operation, located in the City of Guangzhou in SE China.

Instructed in the Bilingual Employment Services Advisor Program (BESA), an introductory program to career development and employment services for those who would like to enter the field.
