Currently employed at Morrison Construction(MCS) - Scotland's leading contractor. Working with the building central team in the central belt of Scotland as a M&E Graduate, learning and working alongside vastly experienced building services managers. Thus far, I have been very fortunate to work on multiple projects so far including West Calder High School; Cumbernauld Academy & Theatre; St Dominics Primary School. Currently working on the complex renovation of Ayr Grammar in South Ayrshire & the construction of the Halo innovation centre in Kilmarnock. Building services engineers are responsible for the design, installation and operation of the services in buildings and other types of structures. These are mainly mechanical and electrical services which are put in place to ensure a safe environment. These include; Combined Heat & Power(CHP) units for energy centres; Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning(HVAC); Domestic Water; Fire Safety; Gas; Small Power. MCS pride themselves in the extensive range of projects where they have been the main contractor. The Queensferry Crossing(shown above), The Falkirk Wheel, Whitelee Windfarm (UK's Largest onshore windfarm) & the Halley VI Research Station in Antarctica to name a few.

The placement ran from June-September 2013 & then again from June-September 2014.My first placement i was involved in the protection sector, dealing with calculations of plant equipment including busbar calculations. Ensuring sizes matched design specification that could deal with the limits of sag, snow and other potential risk factors. Shadowing plant engineers and the sector head in meetings, provided me with knowledge of how important trouble shooting can affect the overall course of the project outlined. On-site visits to many substations with senior engineers and project managers gave me an understanding of how different sub-teams (civil, plant, overhead line etc.) collaborate on a single project.My second spell with IEC I was involved in the drawing office, working with graduates and senior draughtsmen on multiple projects. This placement helped me develop my skills in the computer programme AutoCAD. Developing drawings of all overhead line and underground systems connected through numerous substations in the MANWEB region. This 12-week intense placement gave me the opportunity to participate in an important project that was crucial to the progress of projects within the company. It allowed me to understand how vital it is to meetdeadlines and produce work of a significantly high standard.
