I became interested in teaching digital photography to at-risk youth when asked to write an article on a new program that had been started at the youth detention center in southern New Mexico. Making a difference in the lives of these kids in lock-up has taught me the importance of community and connection. Fresh Eyes Photography gives these youth a chance to see the world through Fresh Eyes. Just as we teach them that they have the ability to alter the outcome of their photos, so too they can alter the outcome of their lives. Most recently I've been thinking about how to harness the enthusiasm and success we've had in local youth detention facilities to find ways to model change for more youth in lock-up throughout the country.In addition to teaching photography I have recent experience in the publishing world. I am a former publishers assistant for CameraArts and View Camera Magazines that explore the world of art photography. Other experience includes New At Home Magazine where I helped out in many areas including photo editor, editor, art direction, photographer and office help. In September 2008 I became co-owner and publisher of Edible Dallas & Fort Worth Magazine, a member of Edible Communities. Besides active involvement in the establishment of the magazine, I was editor and photographer. In 2010 I sold my half of the magazine to my business partner in Dallas so that I could remain in New Mexico and work with Fresh Eyes Project.Specialties: Photography both digital and silver. Experience in printing business operating printing presses and doing pre-press work.
