Network Administrator And Information Security Specialist

Waterford, Ireland

• Designing and planning the network• Setting up the network• Maintaining the network• Expanding the network• Adding new host machines to the network• Administering network security and services• Troubleshooting network and client computer problemsI was employed as network administrator and security specialist and was responsible for the network infrastructure, telephony systems and server environments as well as desktop equipment for over 400 staff in Ireland. System security was of huge importance due to the sensitive nature of the personal information held, so professionalism was a priority, as well as staying up to date with continuous training. While I was employed in the Waterford office I was regularly sent to the UK office to assist with their networking needs. One aspect I was particularly proud of was my involvement in disaster recovery (business continuity planning) exercises, similar to a major incident management type of situation we would simulate a major outage in one of our offices and within a few hours have the staff back online from an offsite temporary office in either Cork or Dublin, my team was in charge of ensuring all telephony, networking and tech equipment was configured correctly to enable staff to logon remotely and continue working as if nothing had changed. I was sent to run the first ever disaster recovery exercise in the UK head office and spent a week there coordinating with teams in sites across the UK as well as the US and Canada, the end result being a successful team exercise.

Furnace Operator And Finish Inspector

Waterford, Ireland

While employed with Honeywell, my job included working on a furnace melting steel to be poured into the moulds for creating turbine wheels for Turbo’s. I also worked as a hand finish operator, making sure the product is free of any faults before it is shipped to the customer, there was a very big emphasis on quality at this workstation. Unfortunately Honeywell decided to lay off staff in 2005. I enjoyed working there and was sad to hear the news of being let go. I did get called back for a full time contract in 2006 however I had accepted a job with Sun Life Financial at this time so declined the offer.

Aol

Waterford, Ireland

After completing a six month Internet tech support course in Fás Baldoyle, Dublin. I was employed as an Internet support Technician in the Waterford AOL call centre. I worked there for two years and gained some very valuable experience while working there. During my time with AOL I was called upon on numerous occasions and asked for my opinion on changes the management were thinking of making or any feedback I could provide to better the procedures we used on the job, to improve productivity . I also carried out a very large amount of “call-backs” this is where a tech rep on the floor could not solve a problem, it would be escalated to me as a second level agent to call the member back and work the problem with them.
