Joined a long-time client to build a legal department supporting its rapidly growing, worldwide cybersecurity business and, eventually, helping facilitate the sale of the company to FireEye for more than $1 Billion. Reporting to the founder/CEO, I engaged in every facet of the business, working to help guide product development and information management to mitigate risk. Hired and led a legal team that streamlined deal flow with electronic contracting, coordinating closely with sales, marketing, finance and consulting. Created and led the Government Affairs group to engage with government as a trusted advisor, and managed the IT and facilities departments.

As a partner and the leader of SNR Denton’s U.S. Internet and Data Protection practice, I counseled clients on a wide range of information security, privacy, Internet enforcement, electronic discovery, technology, corporate and transactional issues. Key aspects of my practice included working with clients to develop and implement privacy and security related policies and programs; coordinating the legal, technical, and public relations responses to security breaches and other incidents; developing and training clients to implement subpoena compliance programs; responding to government inquiries and investigative demands; analyzing emerging legislation and its possible impact on existing and proposed business practices; counseling clients on how to protect online assets; negotiating and drafting technology-related agreements; and monitoring legal developments and industry standards to keep apprised of and advise clients on best practices. On the Internet enforcement side, I acted on behalf of clients in connection with cutting-edge technology issues arising out of online gaming, social networking, unsolicited email (spam) and other issues, and planned and executed “Knock-and-Talks” in an effort to facilitate settlements and learn more about unlawful practices. My practice also included initiating and assisting in litigation in connection with a variety of privacy, security and IP-related statutes, including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, DMCA, Copyright Act, CAN-SPAM and others.
