Marie-Christine Giordano, founder and artistic director of Marie-Christine Giordano Dance, was awarded a Swiss Scholarship to the Alvin Ailey School and a Merit Scholarship to the Martha Graham Center. She earned her Professional Trainee Certificate in the Martha Graham technique and performed with the Martha Graham Company in New York and on tour internationally. She has choreographed and danced commissioned works for performance in New York and Switzerland and is the recipient of grants from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. She has created a unique modern dance training technique and Giordano Alignment, which she has taught as a faculty member at Broadway Dance Center, the Joffrey Ballet School Jazz & Contemporary Intensives and internationally. She is a founder and instructor of an outreach program in New York public school system and is the Salon Series Curator for MCGD.Ms. Giordano's technique, based on principles of modern dance and ballet she deems valuable, develops in her dancers a powerful center, granting them the freedom to explore the full potential of their physical and artistic expression. It incorporates spirals, circular movements, crisp lines, shifts of weight, slow motion, a distinctive dynamic and the capacity to veer from total control to total abandon. The technique is respectful of a healthy alignment of the back and articulations, and guides students who want to become dancers and artists seeking a long career. Over the past 20 years, Ms. Giordano has offered regular company classes three times a week, trained 26 apprentices and offered J-1 visas to seven dancers.
