Athletics Department
The ATEP program accepted twelve individuals to work alongside Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Doctors, Nutritionists, Strength and Conditioning Professionals, and Athletic Directors at Washington State University and local healthcare facilities. During my first term I rotated through: Tennis, Football, Swim, Track & Field, Basketball, Baseball, Rowing, and Soccer. I was also trained in emergency response (CPR, First Aid, &AED).2009-10: I manage the treatment of 100 individuals with the aid of my ACI and two other interns. My job included: developing and implementing therapy and fitness regiments, utilized computer systems (Microsoft and SIMS) to document all clinical treatment, PPE’s, filling out and inputting medical insurance and billing information, creating emergency procedures for outdoor and indoor facilities at Washington State University, knowledge of health and safety codes, teaching seminar to peers and lower level interns weekly to increase proficiency in skill sets.2010-11: Internship with outside institutions2011-12: I planned, implemented, and assessed of health and safety programs for Soccer and Swim athletes. I utilized my proficiency in modalities, biomechanics, and human physiology to promote proper function of the body. I utilized documentation for incidence reports of injuries and environmental hazards. I also assist with investigations of safety and health incidents and complaints of athlete’s injuries outside of the sporting environment. During this time period I also took an seminars and classes for organization and administration with the head of the department to attain skill sets in development of program guidelines and implementation for occupational settings.
