The Center for the Book is under the Library of Congress and there is a State Center for the Book in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These Center for the Book affiliates carry out the national Center's mission in their local areas, sponsor programs that highlight their area's literary heritage and call attention to the importance of books, reading, literacy and libraries.

In this role, I develop and execute effective marketing and communication strategies, assisting with campaign development, and analyzing the effectiveness of campaigns for conference registration, membership recruitment and retention. I am responsible for TLA's social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, and oversee the Libraries Transform Texas Podcast. I'm also the Assistant Editor for the Texas Library Journal.TLA enables libraries in Texas to offer open access to information resources and services to all people. It is the largest state association of librarians in the U.S.

I interviewed medical providers, wrote and copy edited for some of the health projects at TMF Health Quality Institute (formerly the Texas Medical Foundation.) TMF’s programs and services—ranging from quality improvement consulting and technical assistance to research, data analysis and medical review—engage all aspects of health care and caregivers. TMF is a contractor for the U.S. Department of Health. One of my main projects was HIIN, Hospital Improvement Innovation Network, which seeks to fulfill CMS’ goal of a 20 percent decrease in overall patient harm and a 12 percent reduction in 30-day hospital readmissions.

• Reported and wrote articles for many online and print publications, including WebMD.com, MSN.com, the Austin American-Statesman, the Dallas Morning News and the Texas Hospital Association (THA). Wrote the “In the Spotlight” real estate column for the Austin American Statesman’s “Statesman Homes” section from 2004 to 2011.

I wrote feature articles about innovative remodels and creative home design for Austin HOME Magazine, known as the "all-access pass to Austin's coolest homes." http://www.austinhomemag.com/ It's a sister publication to Austin Monthly magazine.

I wrote case studies for THA publications about ways hospitals in Texas can become more efficient, save money and serve their patients better.

Volunteer position: In 2011, I served as the Publicity Chair for the Austin professional chapter of the Association for Women in Communications, the largest AWC chapter in the United States. Our chapter uses e-blasts, e-newsletters, web site announcements, blog posts and tweets to communicate with our more than 200 members. Our most high-profile events are Banner Brunch, held every spring, and the professional development conference Get Smart.From 2012 to July of 2016, I co-chaired Careers Over Coffee South, a monthly networking group for WCA, which is now an independent organization. http://wcaustin.org/about/

I was a full time features writer at the Statesman for several years and wrote about health care, business, real estate, fashion, books and architecture.
