Why risk management? Great question, (all of my aunts and uncles asked me this same thing last Thanksgiving.) Here's why I have spent the past 3 years studying it, and why I’m excited to pursue it!1. Because calculating risks sounds way cooler than rolling the dice.2. I can turn “What Ifs” into “I've Got This!”3. There is no crystal ball to predict the future, but calculating risk can come pretty darn close for most businesses. I am currently a Junior at Ole Miss, studying Risk Management and Insurance, looking forward to pursuing commercial risk management for Fortune 500 companies here in the US.My passion for Risk Management began my Sophomore year when I took an introduction to Risk Class and was immediately hooked! I found the recognition, evaluation, and treatment of risk thrilling! It was the missing piece of the puzzle that connected my previous classes on marketing, underwriting, ratemaking, reinsurance, and investing to the future.This semester (Spring 2024), I’m excited to build upon my foundation by taking a class on commercial insurance, which focuses on the solutions to the risk of property damage, loss of business income, and various sources of corporate legal liability. I look forward to continued intellectual growth and a deepened understanding of the multifaceted field.My commitment to Insurance and Risk Management extends beyond regulatory compliance and career opportunities; it's about cultivating expertise that not only navigates uncertainties but also contributes meaningfully to the evolving landscape of risk in our interconnected world. Insurance and Risk Management are important because it is a pathway to strategic thinking and empowers professionals to make informed decisions for global business resilience.I am proud to be a multi-semester Dean's List Student and an active member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. This past semester, I had the opportunity to serve as our Fraternity Rush Advisor, which allowed me to guide hundreds of young men through the exciting process of joining Greek Life here at Ole Miss.When I'm not studying, you can find me on the basketball court, training for a half-ironman, or attempting to become a bogey golfer.
