I am the Controller of Chaos that your enterprise needs. My current role requires that I control the ever changing details of Federal Grants within an IT organization, proving that nothing learned ever goes to waste. I have strong facilitation skills, and have been an instructor for many years, both in the corporate and the volunteer sectors. I have dealt with many different audiences, from CEOs to the shop floor. Recognizing the importance of improving processes, especially in these economic times, I also hold my Six Sigma Black Belt.I have experience in health care, pharmaceutical, medical device, and educational testing industries as both a contractor and as an employee. Obviously, rigid quality controls and best practices are no stranger to me. I have supported a full development life cycle process, and contributed to its refinement. My first love is requirements analysis, and those skills make me a better manager, since nearly anything we do requires the critical thinking skills of a good analyst.Additionally, I am an experienced small business owner, having been CEO/COO of an S-Corporation selling equipment and supplies to emergency responders. After selling that business, but needing a use for free time, I started designing and selling hand crafted jewelry, and expanded into working with stained glass. Senior Grants Manager
CurrentI am currently the Grants Administration and Compliance manager supporting the Health Information Technology teams. My responsibilities in this role span the life of the grant process, starting with the gathering of the individual workplans and budgets from the project managers, and consolidating that information into a single department workplan and completing the official budget spreadsheet (affectionally dubbed “the big ugly.”) Shepherding the workplan and budget through the state’s application process, monitoring the progress and obtaining the accounts and notice of award comes next. Once awarded, the next task is to establish the tracking and reporting processes for each grant. Quarterly reporting of expenditures against the budget through the life of the grant comes next, along with annoying the project teams to obtain their forecasts and projections. This information is then blended and sliced and diced to meet the needs of the various audiences for the grant data. The granularity and format vary as do the requirements of each recipient – the project managers seek only their information. The CIO wants to see overall progress, along with the forecast to see what else might be possible. The fiscal groups want spreadsheets to feed their own analysis, while upper management likes graphs and charts to show the efforts of the teams. The standardized report formats of the grantors are yet another slice and dice. Auditors, both internal and external are a persistent force, and their reports demand regular attention as well. Naturally, accuracy of all information is of utmost importance, for compliance, planning, forecasting, and accountability. The current portfolio being managed exceeds $1.5B, and the last time I checked, my reports reconciled within a total of $1,600 across all of the grants. I once told my Dad that I was changing my major from accounting to IT because “accounting is boring,” I think he’s getting the last laugh as I’m really enjoying this role!
Independent Author
CurrentMissing our first Wheaten Terrier tremendously, I decided to write Quincy's story, a "mostly true memoir" written from Quincy's perspective. I started with the idea of writing a children's book, but soon realized that it had grown beyond that scope, and is actually suitable for readers of all ages. Teaming with a fantastic illustrator (Wendy Carty), the book came alive with her chapter-ending illustrations. The book was published in October 2022, and has exceeded my expectations. The manuscript is currently with the production company who will prepare and launch the audio book version sometime during Summer of 2023.Book 2, "Duffy" is currently in the hands of my editor, who will craft her magic upon my text that tells the story of our second Wheaten Terrier. Duffy shares his perspective on some of the life events that he and Quincy shared, along with some of his own experiences. I am targeting October 2023 for the first release of Duffy.
The Fool
CurrentAfter running "A Beadin' Fool" for several years, and realizing that the handcrafted Jewelry market is a bit overloaded, I looked around for another artistic outlet. Like jewelry making, the raw materials in the art of stained glass are beautiful, and grabbing the opportunity to buy more specialized tools, The Fool's Glass was born. From sheets of beautifully colored glass I craft ornaments, panels, and windows from commercial (published) patterns and custom drawings. My specialty is the "translation" of a photograph of a beloved pet into a custom stained glass panel. As The Fool, I am responsible for everything:* Raw materials sourcing* Financial record keeping* Manufacturing* Advertising / craft show scheduling* Display* Website design and construction* Sales* Shipping* and that all important Packaging... I remain "The Fool"!
It Project Manager
IT Project Manager for the Commercial Projects group, supporting a truly interesting variety of projects. These projects allow me to demonstrate my capabilities in handling a diverse set of projects - machine learning and analytics, heavy infrastructure installations, "simple" application updates, and software as a service implementations. My teams are diverse, and geographically distributed - all four corners of the US, as well as international sub-teams - all of whom are critical to our success. Scheduling is just one more detail to manage.Learning a new organization, new procedures, new processes and guiding the work to successful implementations make coming to work fun each day!
Project Manager Ii (Senior Project Manager)

Experienced at partnering with diverse teams (technical, business unit, internal, external, large group, small group, with direct control and without direct control.) The projects that I have managed have been both short-term (2-3 months) duration, as well as longer projects lasting several years. From project initiation to those where I have stepped in and taken over the work from a departing project manager, my experience spans the project life cycle. Likewise, the project budgets have stretched from several thousand to several million dollars, and with ultimate impacts from making life better for a department or area, to those with potential to propel the company forward into groundbreaking areas.
