My move to Stirling Council has allowed me to continue working within the architecturally rich and diverse city of Stirling and the surrounding areas. I am responsible for reviewing proposed construction work to ensure that work meets the requirements of the Building Standards and is safe, efficient and sustainable. I am also responsible for working in partnership with police and fire services to provide advice on the condition of buildings in an emergency. My work involves regularly liaising closely with Architects, Designers, Builders and Engineers, offer advice to members of the public and inspect construction work at key stages.

This post provided me with a unique opportunity to further develop my skills and career by working within Building Standards. I was responsible for ensuring that proposed designs and construction work met the requirements of the Building Standards and was safe, efficient and sustainable. Daily activities included liaising closely with Architects, Designers, Builders and Engineers, reviewing proposed designs to ensure that they met the requirements of the regulations, offering advice to members of the public and inspecting construction work at key stages.

Forth Architecture was a small architectural practice located in West Lothian that provided a wide range of professional architectural services mainly but not exclusively aimed at homeowners who wished to save money by extending or altering their home rather than moving home. I launched the practice in 2014 and, over the next eight years, completed over 130 bespoke commissions for clients that ranged from small alterations through to new homes.I provided professional, personal, efficient and reliable service tailored to the individual needs of each of my clients. I was known for my attention to detail and always worked closely with my clients to gain a clear understanding of their needs. My services including free Initial Consultations, free no obligation written Fee Proposals, Feasibility Studies, Site Surveys, Architectural Design, Planning Permissions, Listed Building Consents, Building Warrants, Tender documents and the Management of Architectural Contracts.

As an Architectural Technologist with EK:JN Architects LLP I was responsible for managing a number of commercial and residential projects from inception through to completion. This involved discussions and negotiations with Local Authority officers to obtain Planning Permission and Building Warrants, understanding and developing client briefs, the production of detailed designs and specifications and the inspection of building work to determine if the work was in accordance with the tender documents and other necessary legal documents. In addition I was also responsible for monitoring schedules, issuing and recording progress reports and solving technical and contractual problems as and when they arose.

Working within Falkirk Council's Development Services as an Architectural Technician I was responsible for researching, designing and managing projects involving the construction, extension or refurbishment of educational buildings within the Falkirk area. This involved ensuring that the requirements of my clients where met and the necessary Building Warrants and Planning Permission obtained. In addition I researched and provided information on developments in construction methods that are environmentally friendly, energy efficient and sustainable.I was a key member of “The Asbestos Management Working Group” at Falkirk Council which was established to manage and review Falkirk Council policies for working with asbestos containing materials to ensure uniformity across all services.

My role at the the Metal Window Company as Technical Designer involved the use of AutoCAD to produce design drawings for the product and designs relating to building alterations for specialist installations, at times in public buildings.Whilst working for the Metal Window Company I also played a significant role in successfully creating and launching a new corporate identity together with initiating and managing the design department which increased productivity.
