About Mike Joyner
I believe in creating simple, creative, and pragmatic solutions. I've enjoyed bringing this mindset to working across companies of all different phases of growth and scale. I've been the Chief of Staff to the CHRO at a mature 100 year old 30,000 employee global company trying to transform its business and the first People Operations leader at a scrappy fast growing Consumer Internet start-up with 100 employees. I love to learn and have done so through broad experiences leading teams and programs across IT, HR, Total Rewards, People Analytics, Talent Strategy, and Recruiting. I've led change to performance management programs, compensation approaches, benefits programs and partners, employee engagement programs, and transitions from private to public markets through IPO. I've also learned through a depth of experiences in recruiting through executive search, high volume retail, recruiting operations, talent research and competitive intelligence, and talent branding. I've been fortunate to be at some great technology companies during pivotal growth stages -- scaling operations at Apple during massive global retail expansion and growth on the corporate side a year after the launch of the first-generation iPhone, first recruiting operations leader building from the ground up at Facebook pre-IPO from 1,500 to over 6,000 global employees and through transition to public market, and first people operations leader at Pinterest from Series D pre-revenue and 100 employees to over 2,000 through IPO transition. The best part of all of these experiences has been the people I've been lucky enough to work with and being a part of the amazing community of people working in the talent space.
Listed skills include Vendor Management, Change Management, Data Analysis, Leadership Development, and 22 others.

Transitioned to a fully remote role focused on building out the in-house executive recruiting capabilities and working across the People team on cross-functional operations and programs.- Executive search building out sourcing and market mapping capabilities for all VP and C-level roles. On the search team that closed 16 searches in 2018 including Head of Engineering, Head of Data Engineering, Head of Ads Engineering, Performance Marketing, and the company's first CMO, Creative Director, CCO, and CSO.- Talent market research and insights across all areas of the business including org design around executive transitions and hiring.- Operations including evaluation and implementation of systems, toolkit development driving process improvements, partnering with CHRO on people strategy, and a member of the small disclosed IPO team that took the company public.
Director, People Operations
First person to join the people team to focus on operations. Hired to build the team and capabilities from the ground up to span all functions. I was there from 150 employees to over 2,000 and <10 on the people team to over 150. Led the creation, implementation, and iteration of foundational technology, analytics, programs, and processes. • Recruiting - employer branding, career site redesign, events, employee referral, recruiting tech stack and integrations.• HR Operations - process enablement, employee experience, engagement, and transactional support.• Global Mobility - built a program from scratch that scaled with technical recruiting, university recruiting, and office expansion while being flexible to support innovative offerings to attract talent.• Contingent Worker - designed and implemented a resourcing model that delivered the program through in-house recruiting in partnership with on-site program support from MSP (Pro Unlimited). This resulted in net savings of >$1M in the first year while providing a better candidate experience and higher level of manager support for contractors.• Interim Total Rewards leader - selected to lead compensation and benefits programs through transitions to sales comp plans, 401k and medical providers, base comp budgeting and allocations, and performance management approach.• Onboarding - led the creation of program content and experience in addition to technical elements to create more data and process efficiencies.• People Technology & Analytics - led creation of strategy and roadmap for people tech stack and data infrastructure including operational metrics and dashboards.
Head Of Recruiting Operations And People Analytics
As the first Recruiting Operations person to join the company, I had three primary responsibilities: build a new team from the ground up, launch new technical products to drive more efficiency and insights based on data, and mature operations for IPO readiness. After digging into the work as a team of one, I built a team that focused on building the recruiting tech stack, recruiting programs and enablement, talent brand, data and analytics, and compliance. Many of the founding members of this team are now leading Recruiting and People Ops at other companies. We built solutions that helped to scale the recruiting team from under 50 to over 500 globally, transition from a private to public company, move from completely off the radar to a repeat Best Place to Work on Glassdoor, open up new offices around the world, and grow the company from 1,000 to over 6,000 employees. This involved building many custom mobile friendly internal applications from scratch, inventing ways to integrate Facebook platform to personalize job discovery for candidates and connecting employees throughout the recruiting process, redesigning the career site to share employee and cultural stories about life at Facebook, driving more process efficiency and compliance while being true to the company's culture, and building the data infrastructure and capabilities to inform the business on the impact of the recruiting team.
Manager, Global Recruiting Operations - Retail & Corporate
As a manager on the Staffing Operations team, I was responsible for building and leading a team to evolve the recruiting technology stack, improve data analysis and reporting, and adapt processes to drive efficiency. • Responsible for the creation and management of external vendor solutions, internally developed tools and mobile applications.• Accountable for the strategic roadmap, on-going operational support, and management of vendor relationships.• Partnered with marketing teams to evaluate and improve the company's employment brand. Projects included new flagship country retail store launches (2 of Apple's most recognizable stores - Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and Pudong in Shanghai), company career site redesign that powered the candidate experience for more than a decade after it launched, candidate communications, employment brand assets, and referral programs.• Managed the technical priorities for Staffing with IT and engineering teams. This involved design and development of requirements, rigorous testing, and launch activities with staffing teams. Projects included vendor and internal system integrations, functional enhancements, and new product development.• Led the vendor evaluation and implementation of a SaaS CRM solution for recruiting, sourcing and research teams to manage leads.• Key member of the team that assessed and designed a new internally developed Recruiting system to support corporate and retail hiring around the world.
Program Manager, Talent Strategy
In addition to my HR operations responsibilities, I also led a two-year rotational leadership development program for >300 high potential college graduates across four countries including China and six functional organizations.• Responsible for delivering selective candidate recruitment and assessment events, building a professional learning curriculum and facilitating coaching with C-level executives.• Partnered with functional leaders to identify meaningful rotational and post-graduate opportunities.• Provided coaching and career guidance to participants across three program classes.
Hr Business Operations / Chief Of Staff To Chro
I reported directly to the CHRO and was responsible for working with the global leadership team to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness across all areas of Talent, HR and Recruiting in service of over 30,000 employees around the world.• Demonstrated strong analytical abilities while working with senior management and Finance to forecast, plan and report progress against a $50M budget.• Responsible for planning and facilitation of weekly leadership meetings, monthly operational reviews and quarterly meetings with the entire global HR team.• Generated C-level executive intelligence reports for worldwide headcount movement including hiring, attrition and reductions. • Partnered with marketing events team to coordinate semi-annual senior leadership meetings involving the C-level management team, executives and senior directors. Worked with CMO and EVP of Corporate Operations to plan and deliver the first ever virtual global leadership summit.
Program Manager, Recruiting Systems
As a member of the global recruiting team, I was responsible for the on-going evolution of the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and related systems and interfaces.• Managed the strategic roadmap and vendor contracts with budget accountability of $1M.• Provided recruiting systems operational support for the global recruiting team and HR Shared Services organization including 100+ users spanning six time zones.• Consulted, recommended, and delivered technical and process solutions for projects including systems enhancements, employee referral programs, compliance initiatives, internal employee engagement and international recruitment. • Led complex integration projects including the company’s first automated global online background check solution with First Advantage and a SAP project involving the redesign of the global hiring process to enable greater automation and manager self-service capability.• Proactively investigated new recruiting technologies.
