I’d love to tell you that as a little girl I dreamed of becoming a Registered Dietitian and wondered about the impact I could have on the health of our communities. The truth is, I didn’t. I originally chose dietetics because I thought my passion for sports paired well with my enjoyment of biology class and fully intended on switching degrees once I found my “thing”. Then I fell in love with educating people on the positive impact of food and the never-ending learning environment that nutrition offers. I am now entering my fourth year at Western University and am working towards an Honours Specialization in Nutrition and Dietetics with a Minor in Psychology. Growing up in a small, rural community, I quickly saw how influential food can be on our lives. Our relationships with food can be unstable without the right tools and understanding to support it. I chose to minor in Psychology because I recognize that our thoughts surrounding food can also be impacted by our mental health and self-image. I am working towards becoming a Registered Dietitian because I want to empower others in my community to find healthy and sustainable lifestyles; that way they have more time to spend doing the things they love.
