I have a large interest in emergency preparedness, after being a pre-medical student for the past three years. This interest has been piqued due to the emergency preparedness classes offered at Florida State University. Learning about emergency management has led me to explore career options in the field and has pushed me to apply to get my master’s degree in public health and emergency management. My time at Florida State University has been spent learning about life sciences, and learning about the applications of medicine in the clinical professions. I have gotten the opportunity to become a certified clinical medical assistant, which has allowed me to work in endocrinology, urology, hematology, and oncology, and has given me the opportunity to work with many different illnesses and populations. Along with this, I have taken many classes at the university that has helped me better understand the field of medicine, and all the intersections it can have with emergency management. At Florida State, I have taken three classes in the emergency management department, which has studied public health, foundations of emergency management, and international disaster management. The past year of my education has taught me so much about the processes and implementation of disaster management, and I feel like my determination and problem-solving abilities would be extremely valuable in the field of emergency management.
