This effort included (1) addressing the concerns of a group of dissident investors, (2) defining and implementing a three-year strategic plan, (3) attracting new equity financing, (4) restructuring a key commercial alliance, (5) leading a successful initiative to change Medicare payment policy for algorithm driven tests, (6) working with the FDA to establish new precedents for clearing multianalyte tests, and (7) establishing study collaborations with public and private institutions. Key metrics for this twelve-month effort include $31 million in new equity, a 140% gain in share price and a fivefold increase in market capitalization, from $18 million to $105 million.

I developed a detailed business/operating plan, market analyses and multi-year financial model. I developed and executed investor, grant and partnering programs. I also established research and clinical collaborations with the University of South Florida College of Public Health, PATH, CR Bard and Pfizer to advance application development and build key opinion leader support. I negotiated key licensing agreements expanding access to other applications of the technology and increasing the value of Claro’s commercial opportunity. Key metrics include over $5 million in funding to advance product development and clinical trial programs and establishing a collaboration with Pfizer BioTherapeutics Pharmaceutical Sciences to develop a commercial protein analysis system and research, development and manufacturing applications.

I raised $275 million from private and public placements and secured $20 million in NIH funding. I led a series of successful business initiatives including the divestiture of a legacy business and financial restructuring of the company, an integrated marketing and operational transformation that self-funded R&D/clinical investments, the acquisition and licensing of branded pharmaceutical products, and establishing European operations to expand for commercial expansion and the launch of products in pipeline; . I joined the company at the same time management initiated a plan to expand on its sustained record of commercial successes as an eye care company to become a fully integrated healthcare company.Through a succession of finance, business development and strategic roles as a manager, director, senior director and vice president, I planned and/or executed programs and transactions that increased shareholder value. Roles included analyzing and structuring strategic acquisitions and licenses as the finance member of an 8 member corporate M&A team. I developed models, operational analyses, and deal structures and conducted diligence for series of pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology acquisitions and divestitures.
