I am a lapsed journalist, former public servant, sometimes critic and screenwriter, and current senior editor at the international management consultancy Nous Group. I was previously an assistant director of policy at the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicides, following stints at the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.Prior to entering the public service, I worked as a freelance foreign correspondent, covering more than thirty countries. I specialised in first-person narrative journalism, political commentary, and travel writing. Previously a reporter on The Australian newspaper and a radio journalist at ABC Radio Current Affairs, my work has also appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Saturday Paper, The Guardian, The Monthly, The Daily Beast, and more. I was a shortlisted finalist for Young Journalist of the Year in the 2009 News Limited News Awards.I have significant strategic policy experience and innate leadership skills developed in both newsroom and public service settings and a demonstrated ability to meet the tightest deadlines and produce high quality written work under pressure. I am also more fun to have around than my dour, cynical countenance would suggest.
