From 2007 to 2012, I led corporate strategy and business development for CenturyLink. Some of my contributions and accomplishments include:- Led development of the company's growth strategy, which helped to drive the hypergrowth of the rural telecom’s market capitalization from $2.5 billion to over $25 billion in five years. - Directed the annual corporate planning process, including facilitation of strategic planning exercises within the executive team and between the executive team and board of directors.- Championed the firm’s move into the data hosting / cloud space with the $3.2 billion acquisition of Savvis. This included education of the board, assessment of multiple acquisition candidates, securing board approval to acquire Savvis, performing due diligence prior to transaction and post-acquisition integration.- Incubated highly profitable new revenue streams that drove $20M of annual net income.- Realized gains of over $30M in 2012 from buying and selling wireless spectrum.- Made the company's first corporate venture capital investment.- Filed the company's first patent.

From 1998 to 2007, Mangum co-founded and led an entrepreneurial advisory firm called Venture X Group, with offices in Atlanta and Palo Alto. At Venture X Group, Mangum helped to launch over 100 entrepreneurial projects, representing investments of over $150 million. Successes included SecureWorks (sold to Dell in 2011 for $650 million), MFG.com (Jeff Bezos portfolio company) and AirBand (nation’s largest B2B wireless broadband provider).

From 1994 to 1998, Mangum led a strategic development team for BellSouth, partnering with such mobile computing pioneers as General Magic, Palm, Compaq and QuickSilver to create breakthrough products and services.

From May 1989 to May 1995, Mangum was an officer in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps, where he led a reconnaissance team for a Combat Electronic Warfare unit (in support of an Armored Cavalry Regiment) and a PSYOP team (in support of an airborne Division). Active duty service during Operation Desert Storm. Army Achievement Medal.
