I was the main contact for 1st line support in an 800 seat environment. I was also jointly responsible for 2nd and 3rd line support. Other responsibilities included purchasing, administrating the IT budget and the Active Directory. Technical skills used: Extensive support/ use of Windows XP and Office 03; Administrating a Windows 03/08 domain which included basic administration tasks of an Exchange 2003 server. Support and use of Photoshop, GIMP and Paint.net

To succeed in this job I needed advanced skills in team working and excellent communication in difficult circumstances (on the mountain at minus 20c.)

Required wide range of IT and Networking skills to troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Excellent communication skills were required as incidents were solved via telephone and email. Calmness of temperament and working in a team to find a solution played an integral part in this job.

This posting was to set up a new Microsoft Server 2003 system in a new school. Had to adapt and learn very quickly to get the system up and running before the school opened. In this post I learnt to be diplomatic and calm when dealing with harassed teachers. I had to acclimatise to a very different way of life living in China, the experience expanded my cultural horizons.

Network, email and client machine troubleshooting. Core requirement was solving network related problems in the office environment. Time management was crucial to get problems solved quickly.
