Kaner, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Materials Science- Developed applications and scaled process for conducting polymer nanofibers, particularly polyaniline.- Collaborated on development of new memory devices using metal polyaniline nanocomposites.- Developed an actuator with a single material bimorph film using flash welding to create an actuator with unprecedented degrees of movement.- Optimized polyaniline nanofiber processing and doping to create stable sensors for several toxic chemicals.- Worked with a team at Virginia Tech to demonstrate over 60% shift in light transmission for electrochromic polyaniline nanofiber layer-by-layer (LBL) assembled films.- Deposited polyaniline nanofibers for demonstration of extraordinary supercapacitance of polyaniline nanofibers. Current density achieved was superior to carbon nanotubes.- Collaborated with over 10 different groups from around the world, including industry partners and researchers in materials science, electrical engineering, chemistry, physics and biotech.

This research project focused on the development of flash-welded conducting polymer films for bending (bimorph) actuators (artificial muscles). These artificial muscles are patternable and activated chemically, with an unprecedented degree of movement and speed.

-Researcher for Prof. Andrew Lyon exploring function and properties of p(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (NIPA) nanospheres-Performed dynamic light scattering analysis of NIPA nanoparticles' temperature and pH response. This material contracts with heat and has a transition temperature near human body temperature. -Synthesized gold nanoparticles-Utilized nanoparticles in opal-like structures of NIPA nanospheres -Worked on a team to explore use of materials for drug delivery applications

Worked on the development of sensi-lenses, contact lenses that detected glucose levels using bonding signals indicated by spectroscopy based on a fluorescent resonant energy transfer (FRET) detection mechanisms.
