In my two years on the team, I was responsible for designing the motor driveshaft the inner CV housing for the 2022 and 2023 UGR cars respectively. The design procedure included:• Forming a set of design criteria taking into consideration relevant ISO standards and Formula Student regulations.• Understanding and calculating component load cases.• Component design on Fusion 360 and Solidworks.• Material selection based on theoretical load calculations using GRANTA EduPack.• FEA of component loading cases using Fusion 360 and Abaqus.• Balancing conflicting parameters - in this case, between density/complexity and cost.• Producing manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances.With the 2023 electric being the first electric vehicle the team has taken to competition, I am proud to say that my CV housings were designed to withstand more than double the torque (compared to the 2022 IC vehicle) while maintaining the mass at similar levels. This was done by reinforcing the areas under high stress and removing stress concentration features, without increasing the shape complexity, in order to keep manufacturing costs down.

Carried out research on the "Characterisation of overall heat transfer coefficient of plate heat exchangers". In the two months of the internship I:• Ascertained the heat transfer coefficient through experimentation and error margin methods while using NI LabView for data acquisition and manipulation.• Identified a general pattern through extrapolation to predict the flowrates for which equilibrium was reached for higher fluid temperatures.• Constructed a flow simulation in Solidworks, with a model of the plate heat exchanger.• Assisted with my supervisor's project by helping in the assembly of a desalination unit powered by solar energy.• Learned about methods for acquisition, processing, and storage of energy acquired through solar radiation.
