Ph.D. CandidateUniversity Of Toronto Jan 2020 - PresentToronto, Ontario, CanadaGPA: 3.82/4.00Mitigating Fatigue Damage of 2D Materials on Stretchable Substrates- Exfoliated graphene nanosheets and successfully transferred them onto elastomer substrates using the wet etching method to prepare graphene-PDMS interfaces.- Improved understanding of the mechanism for failure in graphene on PDMS due to dynamic mechanical loadings.- Determined and demonstrated parameters to mitigate the structural damage in graphene on elastomer substrate due to fatigue loading. Moreover, conducted a systemic investigation on the effect of PDMS stiff-ness and adhesion in mitigating fatigue damage in graphene.Strain Engineered Phase Transition of Atomically Thin TMDs- Designed and fabricated micro-wells in SiO2 substrate using photolithography.- Exfoliated large area atomically thin WSe2 on SiO2 micro-wells using state-of-the-art gold assisted exfoliation method. - Leveraged conductive AFM and nanomechanical testing techniques to apply strain on suspended 2D mem-brane and modulate the electrical band-structure of the membrane simultaneously. - FEA and DFT simulations are performed to bolster the validity of the experimental results. Tribological Properties at 2D materials/metal Interface- Customized AFM cantilever by attaching gold microbeads. - Exfoliated large area atomically thin WSe2 and MoS2 on SiO2 substrates using state-of-the-art gold assisted exfoliation method. - Leveraged friction force microscopy technique to investigate the friction and wear behavior of 2D materi-al/gold interface which is very common in nano-electronic devices. Mechanical Reliability of 2D TMDs- Designed and fabricated micro-wells in SiO2 substrate using photolithography.- Exfoliated large area atomically thin WSe2 and MoS2 on SiO2 micro-wells using state-of-the-art gold assisted exfoliation method. - Used both static and dynamic poking using AFM probes to test the mechanical reliability of the suspended 2D membranes at defined loads. -
