Dr. M. Danesh Miah (1971) is a professional forester with an experience of about 25 years. He is currently a Professor at the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Previously, he was the director of this institute from September 13, 2016 to September 12, 2019. He started his career in 1998 as a Regional Sector Specialist (Social Forestry) in BRAC, Bangladesh; in 2000 as a lecturer at the University of Chittagong. He teaches core courses on global climate change, energy and environment, mitigation and carbon trading, forest resource economics, and project analysis. He earned his BSc (Hons) in Forestry and MSc in Forestry in Bangladesh and his PhD in the Republic of Korea. From 2009 to 2011, he was a JSPS postdoctoral fellow at Shinshu University in Japan. He gained professional experience in various ways in Bangladesh, the Republic of Korea and Japan. He also worked as a national advisor on forest carbon issues at UNDP, FAO, GIZ and the Arannyak Foundation. Since 2001 until today, Dr. Miah served as a Senate member of the University of Chittagong. In addition, he served as Provost for the Masterda Surjosen Hall of the same university from 2013 to 2016. He also served as Provost in Shaheed Abdur Rab Hall of the same university from March 2023 to January 11, 2024. He is interested in climate protection, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), REDD+ and forestry. He is able to use the GIS tool in his research on the questions mentioned above. His goal is to find out how global climate change can be optimally mitigated through forest management and other options. He has authored/co-authored a significant number of peer-reviewed scientific articles published in national and international journals.
