During 1980-1981 while employed with one of the worlds largest pharmaceutical companies MD Shahid developed accurate and precise LDH assay methods used by clinical facilities to better monitor the condition of patients who have experienced an episode of myocardial infarction. From 1981-1991 while employed as a senior research scientist for GE /Betz Process Chemicals, MD Shahid developed novel test methods and products for use in hydrocarbon and petrochemical processing industry. In just a ten year period at Betz MD Shahid produced an astonishing 33 US patents and numerous products for commercialization. From 1991 to 1994 MD Shahid was a technical and training consultant for Nalco Chemical, Shell Oil Research, Aqua Process, and Baker Chemicals. From 1994 to 2004 MD Shahid was a senior research scientist for Baker Hughes Petrolite Division. During his career at Baker Petrolite MD Shahid developed new commercial non-toxic and food grade antioxidants for use in the production of plastics and synthetic rubber. MD Shahid was one of the first modern-day R&D scientist to investigate plant and fruit extracts such as Egallic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and other exotic marine substances for use in industrial production processes. During his career at Baker Hughes he produced 13 US patents and many commercial products.
