I thrive at the intersection of strategic initiatives & resources (financial, human, physical/space, intellectual, IT & processes). Working to develop strategic priorities/strategic plans, and bring existing resources to bear (or identify new resources) it what I do best - strategic operations, strategic HR, consulting.I have a tremendous amount of experience in many different areas of academic administration: research, facilities, strategic planning, space allocation & utilization, enrollment management, curricular development (grad & undergrad), college athletics, faculty development, financial administration, personnel management, professional development & training, and special projects that seem to fall from the sky. In my spare time, I teach and serve as a mentor to staff and students.Specialties: I have been praised repeatedly for my ability to get the things done that others cannot, and the number of different (and diverse) projects I can successfully handle at once. I enjoy finishing projects that had previously been languishing. I have had good success in organizational structure design (and redesign) & the realignment of personnel and performance expectations. I have a current particular focus on the hidden costs of staff turnover and have made strides to reduce it. But simply put, the people who work with me praise me for making order out of chaos and fixing broken processes to move an organization forward. My current research interest is the transition to life after a playing career for former professional athletes (the subject of my doctoral dissertation) and related identity issues. The social psychology of identity, in a broader sense, is the foundation of my research. I was a varsity swimmer at Stanford and a former Masters swimming world-record holder. I am passionate about the important role athletic participation and competition plays in not only the educational experience but also the post-competition life of people.

Assistant Dean For Finance & Operations, School Of Arts & SciencesHunter College Feb 2010 - Jun 2013New York, Ny, UsI was hired to help keep things afloat in a time of unease and transition. My initial responsibilities were wide-ranging as the School of Arts & Sciences went through a period of leadership transition. Duties included facilities management, equipment purchases, enrollment management, student-related issues, event planning, staffing coordination, and a long list of "other duties as assigned."When a new Dean was hired, but before the staff was reorganized, my responsibilities shifted from my initial set at Hunter. Specific duties included managing grant & equipment funds, overseeing facilities-related issues (from classrooms to research labs), and the graduate admissions cycle from admission to graduation. With the reorganization of the staff in the Dean's Office and on the heels of a key retirement, I was given expanded responsibilities and a staff of nearly a dozen to manage. My ultimate portfolio of duties included management of newly-created Operations Unit within the School of Arts & Sciences, Hunter College's largest academic unit and the largest academic unit within the City University of New York (CUNY) system.
