My career has always focused on people. I am most fulfilled when I sense the spark that inspires people, when I help to remove obstacles, and then watch them move ahead toward achieving their dreams. Early in my career as a special education teacher, my hands-on work with disabled students taught me many lessons I have carried forward. Eighteen years later following several responsible roles, including supervisor, trainer, and program manager, and with receiving my Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership, my perspectives has taken on a broader view. I am excited about developing and running programs that serve the interests of many. I have an educated eye and an affinity for programs that level the playing field by bringing opportunities to underserved and disadvantaged populations. This includes people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism spectrum challenges, behavioral health needs, ethnic minorities, and English language learners. The capabilities I most rely on in meeting challenges of serving needs of people and organizations are:• Insights that help identify unmet needs and lead to innovative programs and solutions• Leadership in coalescing ideas, clarifying strategies, and rallying enthusiasm to implement change• Understanding of the need for infrastructure elements including processes and procedures• Ability to create positive cultures that support excellence and encourage retention• Team building and collaboration, both internal and external to the organization. I have been privileged to develop and manage programs that help people who need support to reach their goals. Knowing the way ahead is often not easy, I have developed a knack for finding the silver lining and interjecting the humorous wrinkle that relieves tension and releases renewed energy.
