At Idealab, I am responsible to launch a new high-growth technology company. That begins with researching, prototyping, and testing new company ideas, all within the discipline of a lean startup.Since 1996, Idealab has created and operated more than 100 companies (with over 30 IPOs and acquisitions). Successful companies include Picasa, Internet Brands, Ubermedia, CitySearch, Tickets.com, eSolar, WeddingChannel.com, Cooking.com, Overture, Commission Junction, eToys, Compete, Answers.com, Evolution Robotics, Jobs.com, PetSmart.com, NetZero, and Shopping.com.

Originally founded as iFan Media corporation and later rebranded as iCity, we built a mobile-App-centric communication platform for local governments. We provided city, county, and other local government officials a way to communicate emergency information to residents and visitors, in addition to lots of other essential information like local business listings, recreational opportunities, attractions, calendar of events, and much more.As Founder and CEO I led the company from its inception, thru a couple of major pivots, to product launch and signing up customers in states all across the country, from NJ or OR and many states in between.We were successfully acquired in September, 2012 by iCitizen.

I had several roles with increasing responsibility, culminating in this position where I was responsible for identifying the strategic direction for our products and articulating that vision to employees, customers, analysts, and the marketplace in general. I was the primary company evangelist.Prior to heading product strategy, I lead the technical arm of the world-wide sales team. I was a key participant for the most critical pre- and post-sales customer interactions. I supported all sales activities as a company expert for E-mail security products, as well as lead architect for large/strategic deals

Designed and built new company network, including multiple BGP piering relationships, and multiple IPSEC tunnels to satellite offices both domestically and internationally.Deployed new network services, including firewalls, and routers; as well as DNS, DHCP, authentication, file, and print servers. Installed new telephony and voicemail systems, as well as calling cards and usage plans.Project manager for multi-million-dollar building remodel, and physical relocation of datacenter and 100 employees. Deployed Helpdesk ticket tracking system and reduced average response time from days to hours.

Four doctors and I collaborated to found FoxHollow Technologies. I handled most of the infrastructure, facilities, and operational responsibilities, while my colleagues primarily focused on the clinical (product development) aspects. FoxHollow had a successful IPO ($63M) in October 2004, and was subsequently acquired by EVVV in 2007 ($780M).

Co-founded the company to develop an automated and efficient way for basketball players to practice shooting by themselves.Oversaw the invention of a novel piece of training equipment and it's introduction into the marketplace, including the granting of U.S. patent # 5776018First product shipped within 15 months of company starting. Successfully sold products to many major universities, including Duke University, The University of Arkansas, The University of Nebraska, USC, Arizona St., Syracuse, and more.Responsible for all vendor relationships including engineering design services, manufacturing processes, raw material suppliers, fabrication, and packing/shipping providers.Responsible for hiring/firing and all HR responsibilities.

My role at Lumend was to handle the tactical and logistical aspects of getting the company up and running. That included incorporation, facilities, and I.T. infrastructure. Once the rest of the team had all the necessary infrastructure to develop the intended device/technology, I ended my daily involvement with Lumend and devoted my full attention to the other companies I was involved with.Lumend was acquired by Cordis, (a Johnson & Johnson company) in September 2005.

Responsible for defining system-level requirements for radio direction-finding solutions to military customers.Responsible (as part of a team of 12 people) to find commercial applications for technologies which the company had developed for military applications.
