About Michael Deane

I am a child of relocation and a successful one at that. My family came over from England to settle and they thrived in Canada. I didn’t go to school to join the relocation industry. I was gunning for PhD and then life happened. Here is my relocation industry story. I rose quickly through the ranks of the largest Canadian relocation company at the time and was awarded with the position of National Account Manager for small volume accounts (generally those under 25 relocations per year). I proudly stepped into my new cubicle and came to find (and I remember the number) a pile of 258 pages (yes there were piles of paper back then) representing 258 different clients. I poured myself into my new position and started visiting clients about their programs. These programs hadn’t been looked at for years. No one knew that their relocation volume was growing, the relocations were changing and the clients were unaware that my company offered a variety of services that could meet their growing needs. Then I was told that I was only allowed to visit 4 of those 258 clients each year. I now felt that the company deemed me to be on the island of misfit toys (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer reference), instead of being highly valued. All Points Relocation approached me and I told them that there was an entire market of mid – smaller volume relocation clients and that they were under served by the industry. I wanted to be part of a team who supported me on this. And they did! Four years later my partner and I bought the company.I came to All Points with a mission to take care of this segment of the market. I learned also that there is an entire segment of the market that values destination services so we created destination services that met that need. When I started at All Points, we had 5 staff and now we are over 20 staff dedicated to relocation and over 80 Destination Consultants out on the road doing exceptional destination services work each day. There is so much that mid volume to smaller volume accounts can benefit from All Points that they are not getting from the bigger Relocation Management companies, such as empathetic high touch service. We do have clients with more than 25 relocations per year who want some of that high touch as well. We have ecstatic corporate clients and transferees who become evangelists for us. I still love helping our clients as much as I did when I faced that stack of paper because each client is different and deserves our attention.

    I do more stuff than I once did. Relo stuff!Oh the hats I wear….I have a small haberdashery in the bottom drawer in my office. First and foremost I am passionate about and responsible for amazing customer relationships. Some of the best people I have ever met are in Human Resources, and I am grateful for my working relationships with our clients. I am responsible for educating our clients about relocation trends and practices and ensuring that the policies and services put in place are custom fit to suit their needs. For our clients I am the bridge to the larger All Points organization, making sure that our operations have a solid understanding of their corporate cultures and needs. I am responsible for the Marketing and Business Development direction of the company, including shared responsibilities for the direction of our technology goals. I have expertise in all relocation practices including domestic, cross-border, American style programs, and global relocation and assignment management.My partner, Audrey Adams and I purchased the company from the previous shareholders in 2004, and we have overseen the growth of company from its 5 employees in 2000 to now almost 100 at the time of this writing.There is so much more to say (including my spearheading All Points’ Ice Cream Fridays movement), but I think that is enough for now.

    I did stuff. Relo Stuff. I remember those times like they were yesterday (fade to memory scene). I started as a relocation counsellor for American Relocations at Royal LePage Relocations. I ran the first ever Canadian Relocation Department for the Real Estate business, including implementing (then) little known American style homesale practices. I launched Power of Sale Marketing Management for the company. Finally, I became Account Manager for small volume relocation accounts. It was exposure to these amazing accounts, with these amazing needs that prompted me to start my career with All Points. I served on the Canadian Employee Relocation Council Editorial and Policy Survey Boards.
