A voluntary position assisting a research project entitled "The effect of heat exposure on immune function in fire service instructors"; funded by a number of fire and rescue services nationally.The research involved a range of protocols in both lab and field environments, including exercise tests such as anthropometry, basic health check, lactate threshold and max tests; physiological monitoring of core temperature, sweat rate, blood markers, hydration status, physiological strain index and perceptual measures including various questionnaires and classic measures of RPE, thermal sensation and thermal comfort.

A voluntary role involving physiological assessment of junior and senior athletes in association with England Athletics through lactate threshold and VO2max testing. Followed by educatiing athletes and coaches as to how they can be used for training and profiling purposes. The role also included profiling of elite and sub-elite athletes pre and post a training programme using similar tests in preparation for spring marathons.
