About Mikhail D.

With over seven years of experience in web development and infrastructure engineering, I am passionate about creating fast, reliable, and scalable solutions for complex problems. I am a Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) and a proficient user of Ruby, Rails, and JavaScript. I have worked as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at EasyPost, a leading shipping API provider that simplifies logistics for e-commerce businesses and a founding Engineer at Drenchworks architecting and building out the back-end endpoints for client integrations. At AWS, I collaborate with fellow engineers and designers to build and optimize the web infrastructure and performance of the company's products and services. I have successfully led and implemented several projects that reduced load times, response times, CPU spikes, and errors for the company's reporting tool and certification website, which handle over 10,000 records per day. I have also created mobile and web compatible pages, responsive pages, and Rspec tests for various landing and marketing pages. I enjoy working in a fast-paced and agile environment, where I can apply my skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality results and customer satisfaction.

A reporting tool was merged together with a certification website. Records increased from 1,000 per day to 10,000+ records per day. Performance problems manifested through load times of over 20,000ms+ to search and 9,000ms to filter for test result records, CPU spikes exceeded 90% usage daily and 504 errors occurred weekly. The goal was to reduce customer pain by leading the UI performance improvements and improve DB performance. In order to reduce load times for test result filters, I made the design decision to migrate filters from the server to the client. The user no longer needs to contact the database through the server in order to retrieve records. Instead, the server will load all records at render. The test results will then be filtered client-side by hiding and revealing records of interest. These actions resulted in the reduction of render load times from 20,000ms+ to 1,500ms, a 93% reduction in load time when searching for test results. Filtering time was reduced from 9,000ms to 100ms, a 98% reduction.Summary pages had load times of over 11,000ms+, the page contained two summary tables. A Test Run’s table and a Test Result’s summary. Both tables had distinct queries. The Test Run’s query would complete within 1,000ms and the Test Results query would complete within 11,000ms however, the page will not render until both queries were complete. My goal was to reduce response time from the server by allowing each table to render independently. The design I chose for this problem was an asynchronous query and render of each table. Once the queries completed I would utilize a composite design pattern. The pattern will recursively compose each table row and column. Lastly, to prevent queries from being called un-intentionally, I created indicator elements that would trigger the queries on the Summary page only. This resulted in the reduction of response time from 11,000ms+ to 100ms, a 99% reduction.
