Before the world changed my career was in Hospitality. That career path was built up with a variety of roles, from Barista to Owner Operator and finally to bringing my skillset to a team determined to lead the involved industries into the future.That future was multi-use facilities – which, on the surface appeared to be a simple concept, encompassed in the name of our establishment, Movie and Dinner. My role was to develop the “Dinner Side” of Movie and Dinner and the logistics of delivering into auditoriums while maintaining a traditional Bar and Restaurant operation in the space formally known as the lobby.Things rarely go as planned and curveballs were thrown from an unlikely source, the pay rate in the state of Washington – we needed to figure out how to take orders from inside the auditorium without so many servers. Our route was providing tablets to every patron. We worked with our POS provider and an independent programmer to develop the software for a digital menu and ordering system. I enjoyed the technical challenge of database structure, as well as tailoring the User Interface for moviegoers that might not have the tech savvy or the inclination to learn a new system just to order Sliders and a Beer from their recliners.With the upheaval Covid caused, I first looked to understand the future of the Hospitality sector- and that future is much the same as many of the other aspects of our lives, deeply interwoven with technology.When that lightbulb went off I entered into an accelerated IT Training course with Centriq, and chose their Systems and Security path. This will provide me the training to achieve both Comp TIA+ and Comp TIA Security certifications, as first steps into the IT world.
