I am excited about building principled software that is secure, robust, and correct without sacrificing efficiency. This orientation has led me to focus on research and development of programming languages and related tools.For me, principled software engineering begins with fundamentals: clear requirements and specifications, modular and idiomatic design, thorough documentation, and rigorous testing. I believe that software is fundamentally an embodiment of ideas, and that if those ideas are well thought through and clearly communicated then the software will be excellent. Developing new languages and tools is critical because they reduce the gap between ideas and execution, thereby improving software quality while reducing development overhead.I was a lead designer and developer of the Fabric project, a high-level research language with support for information flow types and distributed computation for building open distributed systems. I was also head of language design for Certora's Verification Language (CVL), a high-level specification language for verifying smart contracts. Most recently I have been focusing on formal verification, both through my professional work on the Certora Prover (an SMT-based automatic theorem prover for smart contract verification) and my personal open-source contributions in both the Coq and Lean ecosystems.I have mastered many areas of the tech stack, spanning high-level areas like programming language theory, software engineering, algorithms, and formal methods along with low-level areas like distributed systems and operating systems. I am a very fast learner and a generalist - I love to apply the breadth of my experience to tackle problems in new domains and learn or create new tools to solve them.I thrive in a workplace that values diversity, transparency, collaborative problem solving, autonomy, innovation, and creativity.
