We investigated effects of dietary proteins (soy protein and high protein) and oils rich in n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) (flax and fish oil), and a selective cycloxygenase 2 (COX2) inhibitor on disease progression and renal oxylipins in mouse models of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). These findings prompted several PKD foundations (US, UK) to revise their dietary recommendations for dietary soy protein and n-3 PUFAs for ADPKD patients. We also showed that selective COX2 inhibition improved the altered levels of kidney oxylipins and reduced disease progression, providing a potential therapeutic option for ADPKD treatment.
