Going forward in this direction we have chosen Linux, PostgreSQL database (having Oracle as a future target), JBoss application server. The project included about 100,000 lines of Java code and had a document workflow engine as it's main wealth. We have designed workflow engine with abstract workflow definition which was stored entirely in the database. There were 15 document types defined and a lot of types of documents to be added in future releases. In order to implement unified document workflow we have used pluggable classes - modules - on both server core and web sides. We used ANT tool for project make purposes, XDoclet to generate remote interfaces, data objects and all other J2EE-specific stuff, custom ANT tasks and Perl scripts to generate specific sources like some Java Script files, CVS to store all the project files in one place.
