I was a lab technician for the Plant Biology department at UGA. I managed the autoclaves, dishwashers, and ordered liquid nitrogen for the department. I also completed the Radiation Safety class and I am an Advanced Radiation Worker

I worked as a Laboratory Technician in a plant tissue culture lab. The lab is located in the Arkansas Bioscience Institute at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. I carried out plant-based experiments in vitro and in vivo. I helped maintain established cultures as well as conduct experiments. I worked with graduate students, helping to perform and set up thesis experiments including preparing media, utensils, and harvesting plants for testing. Lab maintenance was also part of my duties which included cleaning glassware, and preparing media. Some of the plant species we worked with included soybean, rice, corn, tobacco, raspberry, muscadine, and peanut. The focus of our labs work was on GMO organisms.

I maintained the farm grounds and was in charge of the daily feedings of the farm’s animals, as well as medicating the animals as needed. This included sheep, cattle, poultry, and horses. We had to maintain records, observe animals daily for signs of illness and injury, and treat medical conditions as needed.
