Selected as the sole recipient of a $25,000 fellowship to conduct an independent research project investigating the relationship between mobile devices and poverty alleviation.Recruited industry experts, local sources, and community gatekeepers to streamline the data collection process, enhance the relevance of the project, and fill gaps in my own competencies.Interviewed over 130 participants (in Swahili) among low-income mobile device users in rural and urban areas in Tanzania to collect primary research on how people use mobile financial tools to enhance their livelihoods.Transcribed and organized over 40 hours of audio into coded transcripts in order to conduct data analysis.Analyzed data using a combination of thematic grouping and Microsoft Excel tools in order to find specific trends in mobile device usage and attitudes as related to poverty alleviation.Wrote a 10,000 word report including a Literature Review, Findings, and Recommendations by using a mess of numbers to shape prose.Developed a personal website to host a summary of the key findings -- check it out at meaganmalm.com!

Led 15 undergraduates through a 5-week language and cultural immersion course in Tanzania—all of who continued courses at the University of Michigan.Created an evaluation curriculum for students’ considering their behavior, presentation, participation, and fluency.

Recommended as Swahili tutor for student-athletes to provide help studying material 3 days per week in order to improve students’ performances.Instructed students in learning Swahili by developing effective studying strategies and instituting proper classroom behavior.

Researched market, competitor, and legalese through informational interviews with leading CDFIs in 10 Detroit-like environments across the U.S.Ascertained the Key Success Factors (KSFs) of these CDFIs according to 4 categories: Competition, Human Capital & Operations, Funding, and Clients. Assessed the organization's aptitude according to the KSFs categories and created recommendations on how to improve readiness with financial projections.
