Senior Communications Advisor

Current

In this position, I lead on the Inclusive Workplaces national advertising campaign. Currently in its fifth year, the campaign builds on the government of Canada’s commitment to improve inclusion and financial security of Canadians with disabilities.I am responsible for the development of the campaign (planning, research, liaising with stakeholders), the execution (including working with internal and external stakeholders), and the final measurement to ensure we have met our communications and marketing objectives. I am the main point of contact with other federal departments, external suppliers, senior management, and other partners. I collaborate with them regularly to ensure the project moves according to set deadlines and expectations. I also manage a Communications Advisor, giving guidance, feedback and support to allow them to excel in their role.I also lead on the Micro-Campaigns file, a multi-project dossier that covers all internal advertising buys under $25k. As lead on this file, I developed a strategic way forward to ensure clients can maximize their advertising budgets even on a small scale. I presented this strategy to managers across the department and the plan was also shared with senior management. In addition to the development of the file, I also led on each of the individual campaigns, giving advice, directing the execution, and performing final measurement to ensure alignment with objectives. As the project grew, I trained a team of three to support in the operations of this file, which included the adoption of internal Google Ad buys - a first for this department.

Jun 2022 - Present

Senior Communications Advisor

I led the Public Health Network (PHN) Communications file, coordinating with federal, provincialand territorial (FPT) governments and federal colleagues. As this was a new team, I focused onthe evolution of communications engagement with FPTs and led on educational piecesestablishing the team’s role. In addition to supporting weekly meetings, I also worked to improvethe efficacy of this group by analyzing feedback, ultimately to make recommendations thatinformed the revision of the PHN Communications Terms of Reference. Through consultationwith PHN Communications members, I identified the way forward for future engagement and call to action for PTs. These consultations were instrumental as I led the revamp of the Pan-Canadian Health Network site, providing communications advice to the Special Advisory Committee (SAC) Secretariat, established to lead a pan-Canadian response across FPT governments in the event of COVID-19 as a public health crisis.I also supported the SAC Secretariat as part of my main duties. This included debriefing theSecretariat regularly, providing communications support on products, including statements fromthe Council of Chief Medical Officers of Health (CCMOH).I managed a new Communications Officer in this role, giving guidance, feedback and support asI provided meaningful projects to encourage growth.

Communications Advisor, Marketing

Greater Ottawa Metropolitan Area

I worked in social marketing at Public Safety, as the lead of the online Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) file. This three year campaign, currently in the first year, is part of the extension of the National Strategy for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation on the Internet (the National Strategy). As lead on this campaign, I wrote a comprehensive strategy that is audience-focused and is backed by evidence-based research. I am the main point of contact with other federal departments, non-government organizations, and other partners who have a vested stake in this file - I collaborate with them regularly.I also researched and wrote the Cyberbullying campaign, an on-going file at Public Safety. This involved researching, writing strategy, collaborating with partners, setting up Public Opinion Research, and drawing meaningful conclusions from these insights. I handed this project off to a colleague when I picked up the CSE file.I worked on the contracting process to hire a creative agency that would work on all Public Safety files. This involved a fair amount of research and work both on drafting the document, putting it out to bid, reviewing bids and selecting a firm, with the assistance of PSPC. I now work closely with the hired creative agency, insuring their work is closely tied to Government of Canada priorities, Public Safety messaging, and research on the CSE file.
