This position is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the City's zoning, subdivision and site plan regulations. It works to ensure that current development is sustainable and meets short and long term community goals. The activities range from taking daily calls and issuing zoning certificates to supporting Commissions, annexations and guiding the completion and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. As part of the implementation plan, I collaborated with staff, commissioners and consultants to reorganize and update the City's zoning ordinance. I also acted as the Executive Secretary for the Carbondale Historic Preservation Commission. The Commission has a number of duties including investigating, holding public hearings and recommending to the City Council the adoption of ordinances designating certain properties, improvements and areas having special historic, architectural or community value as historic districts, landmarks and neighborhood preservation districts.

Worked in what was formerly the Department of Planning & Development. Assisted South Region Project Managers as well as Assistant and Deputy Commissioners on a number of projects and duties, including but not limited to the following:• Planning and putting on the Business Expansion Expo• Planning stages of the South Chicago LEED-ND Initiative• Creating Request for Proposals (RFPs)• Drafting Staff Reports• Negotiated Sales• Creating small maps with GIS• Disposition/Acquisition Appraisal RequestsI also attended a number of trainings and workshops open to Project Managers and Commissioners. During the school year I volunteered with other Planning & Development employees for Working In The Schools (WITS). This program seeks to increase literacy and reading enjoyment in children through one on one tutoring and mentoring of students in weekly reading sessions.

This nonprofit organization assists high school students in preparing for the rigor of college by offering college level courses and the mentorship of current college students. It also acts as a support system for college students, helping them matriculate on to graduate/professional schools and gainful employment.My role, being a former participant, included:• acting as liaison and mentor to program participants• assisting the Executive Director in daily office operations• drafting correspondence to high school and college/university administrators• maintaining electronic and hard copy information on dues and donations to the program• participating in multiple graduate school conferences and networking with other students, administrators and professors
