The Powell Law Firm, P.A. offers legal services in both Florida State and Federal courts, providing appellate and trial support services in cases arising from all areas of civil and criminal practice. As a Legal Intern, Meaghan Griffin was able to observe critical stages of trial and appellate court proceedings including client intake, discovery requests, mediation and court hearings. In addition, Meaghan drafted legal memoranda (Response to Writ of Certiorari, Motion and Order of Summary Judgment, Motion for Attorney’s Fees, Notice of Sale, and Statement of Claim), conducted legal research on various procedural and substantive issues with a focus on consumer, commercial, and real estate litigation and assisted the supervising attorney with editing appellate motions and briefs.

The New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. (LAA) is a nonprofit organization created to protect the rights of those residents of New Haven County unable to engage legal counsel. As a Legal Intern, Meaghan Griffin researched juvenile matters including interstate child custody and visitation disputes, orders of emergency and temporary child custody, adjudication of abuse and neglect, and termination of parental rights. In addition, Meaghan drafted legal memoranda, attended juvenile court hearings and represented minor children in DCF Administrative Case Reviews and Treatment Plan Reviews on a weekly basis.

As a Legal Intern in the State of Connecticut, Department of Child Protection, Meaghan Griffin researched and summarized case law concerning a number of family law issues including orders of temporary child custody, termination of parental rights, parent-child reunification and child legislative history. In addition, Meaghan wrote and proofread pleadings and appellate memoranda and attended termination of parental rights trials, child neglect court hearings and orders of temporary custody hearings.
