Meaghan Shields is an enthusiastic initiate to the world of professional dance and performance. As an emerging artist, Meaghan has focused her dance training in recent years on the movements and traditions associated with bellydance. Building on thirteen years of training in classical ballet, Meaghan has studied bellydance primarily under the tutelage of her mentor Roula Said of Om Laila Bellydance (Toronto, Canada). She has also received intermittent training from internationally acclaimed instructors from New York to Cairo. Meaghan has performed professionally at private and public events both as a soloist and as a member of The Roulettes bellydance troupe. As an instructor, Meaghan has taught many classes and workshops in Ontario and British Columbia (Canada) and was also the creator and former choreographer of the Om Laila Troupe. Since 2009 Meaghan has been living, teaching and performing in Israel, collaborating with other dance and music artists and bridging her North American and Middle Eastern experiences through movement. In the past year, Meaghan has also had the great pleasure (and challenge!) of joining Ensemble Mayaanot, a modern dance company composed of dancers from all genres. The ensemble seeks to explore the inter-connectivity of these genres, while remaining grounded in a strong modern/classical foundation.In addition to her focus on dance instruction and performance, Meaghan also works in a professional capacity as a contract arts administrator, assisting small arts businesses in realizing their marketing and management goals. With clients in Israel, Canada and the U.S., Meaghan applies her knowledge, experience, dedication and superior organizational skills to such fields as website development and management, design and marketing, grant writing, international tour outreach and booking and any other tasks musicians, dancers or visual artists need help executing.Specialties: Bellydance choreography, private-lessons, group lessons, private performances, public performances, workshop.
