-- Provide strategic communications advice on issues, trends, and general outreach regarding Food Safety and Plant & Animal files; Write, edit, research and promote various communications products meant for internal and external audiences;-- Consult with clients to develop and recommend communications strategies and courses of action while being process-based; -- Help clients resolve communications issues and develop, implement, and manage strategies;-- Develop concise, over-arching communications plans that include necessary products for outreach (News Releases, Briefing Notes, Backgrounders, Notices to Industry, Media Lines, Issues Management, etc.);-- Provide communications services within the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC). This includes writing clear, concise communications materials at a very quick pace.

-- Develop and implement communications initiatives while providing support and recommendations to various regional clients, managers, and key officials on communications matters as they pertain to delivering high-quality, Agency-led environmental assessments (EAs) of major projects;-- Produce various communications products such as News Releases, Public Notices, Media Advisories, Briefing Notes, Media Lines and Communications Plans for key EA activities;-- Work alongside various internal departments to reactively and proactively develop sound communications products for the President's Office or the Minister's Office on a case-by-case basis;-- Engage with and respond to members of the media to provide updated, key messaging while being responsible for issues management of various projects;-- Work with internal clients to announce important project developments related to the EA process (allocation of funding, public consultations, information requests, comment periods on impact statements, ministerial announcements, etc.).

-- Provide strategic communications advice for internal and external audiences;-- Research, develop and implement a range of communications products such as media response lines, media advisories, news releases, speeches, backgrounders, statements and public service announcements. Provide writing, editing and researching support for various key departments;-- Engage with members of the media to generate news coverage and arrange interviews with subject matter experts; Coordinate media relations activities at government special events. Think analytically and creatively to develop innovative, engaging material that relates to average Canadians while being factually sound;-- Stay abreast of national news coverage while being able to utilize consistent, key messages in response to media inquiries, department requests and other assignments;-- Coordinate consultations and approvals between subject matter experts and staff throughout the organization. Support a number of internal clients and respond to a comprehensive list of national and international files seven days per week;-- Anticipate media inquiries and prepare plausible media response lines based on previous, published content and up to date research.

-- Research and collect all relevant media coverage (English & French) relating to Health Canada’s priorities (H1N1, Disease Prevention, Product Recalls, Pharmaceuticals, Health Research Developments, etc.); Transcribe specific content for distribution to various government depts.-- Analyze news conference transcripts and House of Commons meetings to isolate and distribute specific media content to established government clients.-- Utilize all media outlets (newspapers, online news, web-based media, social media, press releases, television newscasts) to stay informed of Health Canada issues and breaking news.
