Most people call me "Sam" but some call me "Deacon", a moniker I picked up from my days as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. After two years of prosecuting I joined Wolcott Rivers Gates where I have practiced ever since. While engaging primarily in civil litigation I have accepted engagements in the criminal arena including several capital cases and a nationally significant espionage trial in federal court. In the civil area I have enjoyed a diversity of causes. I am proud to represent two national companies in wrongful death, traumatic brain injury and other serious tort cases. I also have extensive litigation experience in will contests, allegations of breaches of fiduciary responsibilities, stockholder disputes, discrimination charges, ERISA insurance issues, commercial transactions, construction defect claims and even labor union disputes. I have successfully sued localities on behalf of citizens aggrieved by the abuses of power and processes including a suit to enforce Religious Land Use rights and another to successfully challenge the proposed sale of a public roadway. While maintaining my litigation practice, I recently assumed the role of Director of WRG Corporate Solutions. I hope to use that position to raise awareness of the firm's heritage of assisting businesses with their diverse legal needs.
