About Meena Pershad Waghray

As a practicing lawyer, my focus has always been on the parties' stand in their own cases, and often they had no clue, sometimes the cases were not meant to be in the court. I saw relationships break in the courts. In 2002, I met with a mediator in the USA, who explained how it works. and I fell in love with the process.In a dissertation on the Bangalore Mediation Centre done as a part of my PGDCL, NLSUI, I got a thorough understanding of how mediation proceeds and how a mediation center works. Shadowing the mediators in BMC was probably the most defining moment for me to take the crucial decision on sticking to mediation. The reward I often get is seeing the parties happy after a mediation. I never saw this while practicing as a lawyer. Later, I completed the 40-hour mediator training with the ADR Group London, with Thomas Valenti of Valenti Law. It was brilliant. Just the way each stage is handled in mediation process was amazing. I explored training and found that I absolutely enjoy the changed mindset of people after they become mediators. I stuck to this, mediating and training law students.I moulded the training into a module easily acceptable to the Indian audience with film clips and mocks. Reduced the theory to simply giving out the self paced links. I tested it out on all age groups, lawyers and non-lawyers, and teenagers. The feedback is always Fantastic. The first-ever "Young Mediators Training Program" in India, for students from 9th to 11th standard, was conducted in 2017. The students learned it very easily and conducted mediations in the, mocks like pro's."Taste of Mediation", is the most popular introductory program for 75 minutes with small simulations that helps people understand the concept and make an informed decision to go for the workshop.I am also a visiting faculty teaching Legal Studies for classes XI and XII at Army Public School, KK Road, Bangalore. I have two similar goals and similar-sounding as well. Separated by a "T" I teach Meditation and Mediation. One is spiritual and the other is very practical. The end result of both is harmony.
