I have been working as a consultant with GTR, and handle their in-house reports as well as customised reports. With GTR, I am engaged in handling entire North and Latin American regions to cover power sector related policy and market developments (with the main emphasis on transmission segment) to generate content for weekly, and monthly products as well as for various reports.

• Project Undertaken: “Assessment of likely impact of Carbon Taxes on India’s exports, domestic production and employment” under Professor Bishwanath Goldaro Analysed the impact of US import tax on Indian economy and in comparison to various other developing countrieso Engaged in analysing import, export, and CO2 emission data for various countries, and their comparisons for different manufacturing industries; assessed the impact of US import tax on various economies; and studied intensive literature o Developed an excel-based model and used STAT software to work on extensive data and its analysiso Wrote two entire sections (5 and 6) of the report, which is available on WTO website• Findings: The review of the literature and the analysis showed that carbon price policy of the US will not have much impact on exports, output and employment in India unless it applies carbon border taxes on the grounds of competitiveness and carbon leakages.

• Project Undertaken: “Economic instruments for industrial pollution abatement in India”o Analysed India’s command and control policies for pollution abatement and studied literature on polluters pay principle as well as for its exampleso Prepared a questionnaire for State Pollution Control Board employees and interviewed them; reviewed 1990-2011 budgets for environmental incentives; studied different court cases, and environmental markets of different OECD countries; and prepared an excel-based model showing the impact of taxes, adoption of clean technologies and subsidies on the Net Present Value of a Companyo Recommendations of the project were included in the suggestions forwarded by CSE to working groups of 12th Five-Year Plan• Findings: India is still following command and control policy regime and has failed to follow polluters pay principle properly. There is need to go for more market based instruments for targeting externality directly (Pollution taxes), adoption of performance based incentives, changes in current taxation system (GST), involvement of more social groups (image building) etc.

• Project Undertaken: “Report on Development of wind farms in Gujarat”o Studies wind farms science, technologies and conditions with special emphasis on the state of Gujarat; and CDM processo Collected and analysed data of India’s registered and unregistered wind projects for CERs from UNFCCC site, and on wind farm condition in Gujarat. • Findings: The analysis showed that though central and Gujarat governments are giving several incentives for wind power development, the harnessed capacity lacked far behind the total potential of the state.
