Since October 2010 I have worked as a freelance researcher – working on both market and social research in the private and public sectors. Prior to this, I was permanently employed by Isandla Institute as the coordinator for the Good Governance Learning Network (GGLN). I have worked as an Account Manager in the Public Sector team at TNS Research Surveys. I have also held a post in Business Development at Adcorp Holdings. I began my career as a junior lecturer for three years and then a lecturer for two at the then RAU (now University of Johannesburg). Through my own academic work as well as professionally, I have gained experience and developed skills in proposal and report writing, teaching, qualitative and quantitative research, client relationship management, project management, tendering, and presentation delivery amongst others. I believe that my foundation in sociology (which has a multidisciplinary orientation), the wide range of skills that I have learnt in various roles (nine years of work experience in a permanent capacity and eight years as a consultant), lend my abilities and aptitude to a wide range of opportunities. Proof of my written abilities lie in that fact that I have co-edited a book publication entitled Globalisation and New Identities: A View from the Middle, co-written two articles published in an accredited journal, and in a contract capacity, I have coordinated, edited and written for the GGLN’s State of Local Governance publications. I have also written a number of articles and research reports for public and private sector clients. have the necessary experience of dealing with a range of stakeholder groups, including various government departments. Teaching at a tertiary institution, coupled with delivering presentations to senior corporate management as well as high-level government representatives, have also allowed me to develop effective and professional communication skills.
