I was first introduced to computers and engineering at the tender age of 14 when I enrolled in a BASIC programming class offered by the community library in Saint Louis, Missouri. I continued my education at St. Louis Community College and Southern Illinois University and eventually my childhood hobby grew into a career. In 1988 I was employed by a small electrical switchgear manufacturing company as an Associate Electrical Engineer. There I was involved in developing new products such as a 2000 amp vacuum circuit interrupter, gang-operated side-break disconnect switch, and a SUB-NEMA cycloaliphatic epoxy insulator -- to name a few. Along with product development I acted as the company network administrator and programmer -- back when Novell Netware was the dominant player in local area networks. In 1994 I went to work for an IT consulting firm. There I worked on projects for such companies as Cooper Industries, Toyota Motors, St. Louis Baseball Cardinals, Summer Bay Resorts and a plethora of other companies in industries ranging from commercial real-estate to health care to manufacturing. As a network engineer I've built, installed, and maintained networks built on Cisco technologies and O/S platforms from MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows 3.11/9x/NT/2000/2003, HP-UX, Linux, Mac OS X, and Novell Netware. I also program in Java, Perl, VBScript, JavaScript, PHP and FoxPro (when FoxPro was owned by Fox Software). Currently I'm Director of IT for Preferred Guest Resorts in Winter Park, Florida and also operate my own voice over IP company.
